“Al conocerse oficialmente la decisión de la Marina Americana de instalar la base naval en los terrenos de la población (San Ildefonso), uno de los grupos en cuestión, dirigido pro el Delegado Especial, enviaba un emisario en bote de vela a la isla de St. Thomas con cartas para Don Angel Lugo, Comerciante de aquella plaza y terrateniente de la isla de Culebra, pidiéndole les concediera la parcela de su propiedad conocida como el Cayo, para ellos mudar a la misma sus viviendas de San Ildefonso”. Cuando los culebrenses fueron desalojados del pueblo de San Ildefonso, algunos de ellos se mudaron a una finca perteneciente a Don Angel Lugo. Al lugar le llamaban el Cayo por estar cercano aun pequeño cayo donde vivía William Bruley. La foto señala remanente de la villa que luego desapareció. Circa 1935.
When the culebrenses thrown out of the town of San Ildefonso, some went to live at a farm belonging to Don Angel Lugo. The place was used to be called the Cay because it was situated next to a small cay belonging to William Bruley. The photo shows remnants of the village that later disappear. Circa 1935.
